A SEARCH FOR HE INDIANS
I
must see my country
I made up my mind to see India
traveling from the south to the extreme North,
from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas .
I started from the Cape to the Western Ghats
wherefrom I eyed on Kerala;
I enjoyed there the nature’s beauty
but I could see no Indians there!
I left behind Kerala
and reached Karnataka,
Tamilnadu and other northern states.
At last I reached in Kailas
the northern most and
the highest region of India.
Standing atop the Himalayas
I saw the renowned India!
In my journey I could see
the Christians, Muslims,
Jews and Parsees, Buddhists, Jains
Sikhs and the Hindus.
Again I could see
Malayalees and Madrasis,
Kashmiris and Bengalees
But I could not see
the people called Indians there!
I could see only the ones
in their respective garbs of religions
and the regions.
I could see only the diversities
and a country with the old civilization
broken up into fragments
by narrow communal walls.
